Antibiotic Guardian – Spread the word about Antibiotic resistance

Antibiotic Guardian – Spread the word about Antibiotic resistance

A friend of mine recently brought the Antibiotic Awareness day to my attention and I seeing as I’m a mother I thought it would be great to share this on the blog as well.

I’ve never really been a fan of drugs and injections, thankfully I generally have good health so I don’t take drugs regularly. A lot of the time when I take drugs I actually wonder whether they really work or it’s all in my head… But that’s beside the point! The point is bacteria are becoming more and more resistance to antibiotics so we need to moderate our use of antibiotics to build up our immune system and fight the antibiotic resistance!

November 18th is European Antibiotic Awareness Day and we can all become Antibiotic Guardians to help increase the awareness and slow the resistance. Find out more by watching this video…

By becoming an Antibiotic Guardian, I’ve taken the pledge below:

  • For illness that our bodies are good at fighting off on their own, like coughs, colds, sore throats and flu, I pledge to talk to my pharmacist about how to treat my child’s symptoms first rather than going to the GP
  • Washing your hands properly is the single best way to prevent the spread of infections. My family pledges to help cut the need for antibiotics by always washing our hands with soap and water for about 30 seconds (about the same time it takes to sing A, B, C, D song)
  • I will visit the ebug website ( with my child(ren) and take one of the antibiotic awareness quizzes together

When you think about it, it’s quite simple really, try to live a healthy lifestyle (which includes exercising moderately, eating your 5 day and drinking loads of water) that reduces the chances of falling sick and when you can, avoid taking drugs unless you really need it.

To find out more about the awareness, you can read the press release here.

Once you take the pledge you also get this cool certificate 🙂

Will you be taking the pledge today? It only takes a few minutes…

  1. Great post! Few weeks ago my baby had some nasal congestion and a little fever and the GP prescribed antibiotics, which really worried me because she even admitted that she wasn’t sure that it was the best thing to give him…just guess work. From now on, we will be antibiotic guardians. Thanks for sharing!

    • I know what you mean about being given prescribed antibiotics for our babies! Everyday is a school day so really we just hope for the best especially when it comes to them! Glad to know you’ll be joining the fight! 🙂 x
