We had his naming ceremony last week and he came out with 14 names as is tradition! Aj had about the same so it’s no surprise! Since he was named after his grandpa AND he came out looking a lot like his daddy I’ve decided to name him Junior on my blog! So that’s where the name ‘Junior’ comes from… We’ll see if he grows up looking like his dad though!
Junior is generally a good baby and I bless God for that! He really only cries when he’s hungry and so far he still sleeps a lot but it’s still early days so he could still change! He feeds about every 2-3 hours during the day and the night is about the same thing too – most times… He usually drops off after having a breastfeed so he’s quite happy to go back into his cot after his feed. Plus, he’s started doing those sleep induced smiles… Love them!
I struggled with Aj when it came to breastfeeding, until I decided to feed her with only one breast (the left one) and things became a whole lot better after that. This time, we tried to breastfeed from both breasts and once again he got very restless on the right boob. He’d cry a lot, latch on and off and not drain the milk from the boob – déjà vu! In order to avoid mastitis this time around I decided to express the milk from right boob and just bottle feed him that. So he has expressed milk usually at night and sometimes during the day if I’m having a nap – fed by Grandma or Daddy. The rest of the time, he feeds happily from the left boob. So far this seems to be working for us and lets pray it stays that way! In fact, he has already put on more than his initial birth weight after a little drop – he weighed 4.0kg on the 6th day!
Aj and Junior so far seem to get along! She gives him loads of kisses and strokes his hair, which is cute – that’s the good bit. The frustrating part is Aj has become more prone to tantrums when she doesn’t have her way. I’m not sure if this has anything to do with Junior or if its part of the terrible 2’s & 3’s – I suspect it’s a combo of both! She’s no longer the center of attention so she gets more frustrated these days. We’re trying to be more patient with her and give her attention especially when Junior is asleep so lets hope this is a phase which will eventually pass. In the mean time, we’ll continue with more positive re-enforcement and patience and hopefully it’ll be over!
Generally, I’m feeling a lot better now than I did when I was pregnant! When we got home and I was breastfeeding I would have the most terrible tummy cramps – they hurt so much! The midwife said as women have more kids the cramps get worse due to the uterus contracting back to its normal size – WHAT! Another reason to stop at 2 me think…? 🙂 Thankfully, the pain eased off after about a week but the hot water bottle helped a lot. I’ve still got a few pelvic and body aches but once again these are easing off and my blood loss is just about gone now. So looks like I’ll be back to my complete self in another week or so! But my boobs are still so sore adjusting to breastfeeding again.
Overall, this past 10 days have gone a lot better than I thought! It helps that I knew what to expect a lot more this time around compared with Aj’s 1st week and 2nd week. I’ve also found that tracking what time he eats and roughly sleeps gives me some level of control especially when there’s a slight pattern to it. Now, I have a rough idea of what to expect in terms of sleeping and breastfeeding and I can then manage my time a lot better too. I’ve been using the Baby Nursing App and I’ve found it awesome to monitor a number of things including feeding and sleeping!
Now this has turned into an epistle! Can’t remember when last I wrote a post like this! So I’ll stop, for now…
You all enjoy the rest of your weekend!
